Highly regarded for his knowledge and expertise in personal injury law, Andrew has appeared in a significant number of landmark High Court cases that have changed the legal landscape in that area. He has also been briefed to appear in seminal Court of Appeal matters in New South Wales, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, as well as other States and Territories across Australia.

Having commenced practice at the Bar in 1976 and appointed Senior Counsel in New South Wales in 1993, and subsequently commissioned as Queen’s Counsel in Western Australia and Tasmania shortly thereafter, Andrew maintains a true national practice. Briefed in severe personal injury matters and in more recent times, child sexual abuse cases, Andrew also possesses considerable experience in industrial and employment law, insurance litigation, medical negligence and professional negligence. Andrew often also represents clients at alternative dispute resolution forums, including complex mediations.

A recognised leader in personal injury law, Andrew is a co-author of Thomson Reuter’s Personal Injury Law Manual NSW. He is a former director of the Motor Accidents Authority and former Chair of the New South Wales Bar Association’s Common Law Committee. He has also served as an Acting District Court Judge in the late 1990s. Andrew was recognised as the Australian Lawyer Alliance’s (ALA) member of the year in 2018, and notably, is the spokesperson for the Australian Lawyers Alliance in respect of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. He has also appeared and made submissions with Peter Semmler QC on behalf of the ALA before the Ipp Inquiry in 2001.

Andrew holds a Doctorate in Philosophy and a Master of Arts (with distinction) from the University of London, a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney and Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. He also holds the rank of Colonel in the Australian Army Reserve and the Reserve Forces Decoration.
